Laura’s work as a nurse practitioner has pushed her to her breaking point. A trip abroad to visit her grandmother in Honduras promises a few days of relief, but when her abuela falls ill, Laura finds herself walking the halls of a hospital once more. Still wearing her scrubs, she could easily be confused for a local healthcare worker―and it’s a mistake that happens almost immediately. After a recent shootout, the local gang needs a doctor, and they don’t ask for what they want―they take it. In a split second, Laura is captured in a deadly case of mistaken identity. The outlook is dire until a mysterious rescuer appears, launching the pair on a desperate flight to freedom.

As a member of the ultraclassified guardian program, Manuel is responsible for protecting US assets in Central America. But when a job in Honduras goes terribly wrong, his skills are pushed to the limit as he races to get Laura out of the country alive. What begins as a connection forged in a shared ordeal quickly deepens, and Manuel and Laura must learn to trust their instincts―and their hearts―if they hope to survive.

My Review

What would you choose? Manuel is faced with a choice, Live the rest of his life in prison for a crime he didn't commit and was in the wrong place at the wrong time, or "die" in the eyes of his family and friends and live free but helping people. Those who make this choice are the Guardians. These are the protectors in the shadows that go by the name Ghost.

This ghost is tasked with saving a witness from the gangs in Central America. Our heroine gets kidnapped with him and gets pulled into the intrigue and in fighting in this gang world, Trying to fly under the radar makes it difficult to move anywhere and with bullet wounds, it is good that Laura is a nurse and can take care of the impatient patient,

The chemistry between Laura and Manuel is palpable, even though he is unable to even give her his name. The twists and turns are fantastic. Just when you think the story is winding down and everything is solved, Traci Hunter Abramson gives you more.

There are fantastic guest appearances by previous guardians we have met. This page turner gives suspense and satisfaction

I received an early copy of this story through NetGalley and this is my honest review.

The All-American Book Review

The All-American featured two sisters in what else, an all-American family. Flossie loves books and Bert loves baseball. The story starts with their lives going typically with difficulties with friends and things that they would change.

The story takes a dramatic turn with the introduction of the red lists and accusations of communism against their writer father that changes their lives.

This story shows the before, the during, and some of the after.

It shows two girls, their dreams, and their disappointments. The characters are interesting, especially those viewed from the point of view of the girls. There are things they see and there are things that the reader will see with the insight of history.

This story was well written and had my emotions everywhere they should be and there were things I didn't see coming. I loved the inclusion of the All-American girls baseball league especially in it's later years.

I received an earc from the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.
